My name is Athena, and I am so happy you are here, however you found me. Maybe you have been with me for the entire 13 years I have been writing books and teaching about crystals and offering them online; or maybe our paths are just crossing now, in perfect time. What I want you to know is that you have met me at an important phase in my own journey and I bet I have found you at something of an interesting place too. Here, we see each other, challenged by aspects of our life and times and yet constantly looking for something deeper. Something clear, pure, and untouched by all the energies not in alignment with love. Somehow, you know – just as I do – that crystals are this timelink between the untouched past and the complex present, holding keys to messages and wisdom we have not yet accessed, and promising a way in to a mystery that is bigger than us.
Yes, there remains a mystery bigger than us, so vast that it overwhelms any idea we have of its size, unbothered by the daily machinations of human life because it is just so far beyond. And your soul knows it came from there, and knows it is headed back there again.
Crystals are the connection. They are the lovechildren between our planet and Source, reminders that magic is real because come on: Look at them! So beautiful, organized, intentional. Proof of the Divine itself, seeking to provide beauty we must hunt and find. Hiding it deep within the earth to summon us as alchemists finding ways to unearth layers of absolute unadulterated beauty that have been here since before you arrived and will outlive you by millenia.
But isn’t that love? Isn’t that exactly what soulmates are? Destined connections outside of time where hours pass as minutes and love languages become expressed without words. Where pure vibrations are felt not seen, and the synergies between you and the other enhance your power and energy manyfold.
One of my earliest teachers told me that my destiny in this life was to be a Stone Keeper, a keeper of earth’s lovesongs and lovechildren, one who would learn and share the wisdom they have stored, and channel the Earth’s own historic truths their vibrations. I take this role seriously, and as an educator, magical practitioner, and also a mother, a lover, a historian, a writer, and a dedicated steward of this planet, I feel that my entire path has unwound to place me here, with you right now, for a different type of “class” – we no longer have cosmic patience to sit and not feel; to hear but not be moved. That paradigm of learning is dying a slow death, but in its place rises a new way of learning: somatic experience. To feel in your body what is beyond the capacity for transmission to your brain. To allow your central nervous system, which is really just the channel for energy flow across your chakras, to soften and relax into a river of divine pure love that you can then bring to all of your interactions and words.

Gem Journey
The idea for this class came in a winter dream, and has been gestating within me since that time, much like the Imbolc stories of sacred growth. I was shown a two-part class lasting 2.5-3 hours where we would learn about the love story of 1-2 stones, their journeys of growth and evolution to human contact, and then take a shamanic journey with the stone’s energy to learn and discern their energetic resonance with us in particular.
From general to specific, from the head to the heart, from the mind to the body, an integrative journey with gems chosen specifically by me with spirit guidance, following a chronology and geology of our planet’s core development. From the void to creation. And in the process, witnessing something ancient within you arising from the slumber of many lifetimes. I do believe these journeys will lead to spiritual awakenings, healings, and past life recall
Who is Athena?
Hard to answer that question simply know, after a lifetime of work in Gaia’s garden. I am a lifelong teacher, beginning at age 23 teaching university writing classes to the completion of my PhD in educational leadership at the University of Southern California. I became a global Chief Learning Officer in the private sector after leaving university life, and then began Sage Goddess in 2011 in my bedroom, which grew to be the largest metaphysical shop on Etsy in two years and later became the largest North American importer of gemstones. And then, my path evolved. I sit now as the Founder of Sage Goddess but also the Founder of Magical Entrepreneur and Athena’s Lair, two spaces I have built to anchor my rebirth in the world and serve as containers where my previous life and current life can unite, integrate, evolve.
I have written four best selling books including two on crystals: Crystalpedia and Crystal Lore, Legends, and Myths, both encyclopedia and comprehensive collections of stones and their stories. But most of my wisdom remains within me, the stories that have not yet been told, that only I know, from lived experience, plant teachers, and dinner conversations across tables with the miners themselves. Riveting, intoxicating, seductive – like they can’t ever quite be told for long enough, the listener able to hang on the words as if each were about to shift some core aspect of their life and awareness, or connect them to some hidden facet of their purpose and vision.
And the truth is, crystals can do that. They are with us, but not made by us; they are a technology implanted, in my opinion, by forces so far beyond our capacity for comprehension that in this lifetime we will never fully know how to work with them. No way. But that doesn’t deter me. I still want to know what I can know, and I get excited to think about the future generations and what they will learn. Technology is only as effective as the hands that hold it.
But here’s the thing: I think we are stuck. Stuck in “amethyst is for peace” and “amethyst comes from Brazil.” I can’t keep talking about that – and spirit guidance to me was good, please stop. No one needs one more class about that. What else is amethyst about? What were the Greeks really doing with it? What force allowed it to keep the bearer in control of their mind and body? What parts of the story are we missing? I believe the stones themselves can tell us. If we get into a space and vibration where we are ready to hear the rest of the story.
The love story. The stuff from the bedroom. The intimate whispers between beloveds. You aren’t going to find that in a book. Not even mine.
But you will find it here, through journey, through a deepening of our awareness, through the drum and bowl and fork. Through your hands and heart. Through dreams and channeling.
